Learning
to play the cello can channel a child’s or adult’s curiosity
and energy in a constructive, enriching direction. The
joy of musical expression builds self-esteem and teaches self-discipline,
as well as muscular, visual and aural development – skills
that will enable a student to enjoy music for a lifetime.
Learning
to play the cello is stimulating, challenging, rewarding and can
offer significant advantages to students looking to excel in the
school environment.
In
the regional festival orchestras Ms. Owen’s students consistently
take top honors at every level and over the years her studio has
produced dozens of All-State Cellists.
Former
students currently attend Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Columbia, and
Brown Universities and some have chosen careers in music.
Ms.
Owen offers individual lessons from beginning through college level
tailored to meet diverse needs. Included is NYSSMA, SCMEA, LISFA,
All-State and college audition preparation.
She
offers traditional training: development through scales, studies,
repertoire and sight-reading and encourages chamber music and orchestra
participation.
